Three people have been found dead with bullet wounds inside a property on one of Madrid’s most upmarket streets.
They have been described as a male and two women.
Neighbours raised the alarm after hearing shots ring out in the Spanish capital.
Police made the grim discovery inside the residential property in the Spanish city's Serrano Street, Calle Serrano, at about 10.30am this morning.
Investigators are currently at the scene.
Initial inquiries are pointing to the dead trio being a mum, her son and a woman who was working at the property, according to local reports.
Unconfirmed reports say detectives are believed to be focusing on the theory that the son killed the two women before shooting himself.
The first officers who reached the scene wore body armour and carried shields given the chance the gunman could be armed and alive.
But all three people inside were already dead when they gained entry.
Initial reports suggest that one of the two women was working at the property, while others said all three victims were members of the same family.
The flat is in an eight-floor apartment block sandwiched between a clothes shop and stationery shop.
Serrano Street is synonymous with high-end shopping.
The emblematic and exclusive shopping street is the location for a number of luxury flagship stores.
Near the intersections of Calle Serrano, Calle Velázquez and Calle Ortega y Gasset is what is popularly known as “Madrid’s Golden Mile”.
The nationalities of the three dead have not yet been revealed.
A spokesman for Spain’s National Police in Madrid said: “We can confirm three bodies were found inside an apartment in Serrano Street.
“We received the alarm about 10am after people in the vicinity rang to say they had heard shots ring out.
“The three people we found dead are a man and two women. They all had bullet wounds.
"We do not have information on their nationalities or the relationship between them at this stage.”
