Madonna had been 'strenuously rehearsing' for Celebration tour prior to hospitalisation

Madonna had reportedly been "strenuously rehearsing" for her upcoming world tour prior to being hospitalised just a few days ago as the result of a "serious" infection.

It was announced yesterday that the singer-songwriter, 64, developed a bacterial infection over the weekend which led to her spending some time in an intensive care unit.

Although it's been assured that she's on the road to recovery, fans have been told her commitments, such as her Celebration tour, will now need to be 'paused'.

It's now been claimed that Madonna had been "strenuously rehearsing" for the upcoming tour - which had been due to begin in just two weeks - prior to her being hospitalised.

Madonna - who was due to launch the tour on July 15 - is said to have been rehearsing at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, for weeks before ending up in hospital.

Discussing the rehearsals that had been underway, a source has told PageSix : "She had been putting in 12-hour days. She was strenuously rehearsing and putting in the work."

Another source told the outlet that she "doesn't want to cancel her tour" and was enjoying herself in rehearsals. They added: "[She] wants to get back to it when she's ready."

They further claimed that the Grammy Award winner is "game" to "eventually" head out on tour, but the source claimed that her team "doesn't want to push her".

Rehearsals were understood to have been underway for months, with Madonna having previously shared glimpses of herself practising for the tour on social media.

The Celebration tour had been due to begin in Canada next month and it was scheduled to visit various countries over a six-month period before ending in January next year.

Following its opening, the tour was due to head to venues in the US, the UK and other countries in the coming months before concluding with a series of concerts in Mexico.

It has yet to be confirmed if the whole tour is delayed, or whether it's certain dates, though according to PageSix the entire Celebration tour has now been postponed.

Madonna's manager Guy Oseary announced that she had been hospitalised recently in a post on social media yesterday, with him having issued a statement to her fans.

He wrote: "On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU. Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.

"At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”

PageSix reported yesterday that she had been found unresponsive and was rushed to a hospital in New York on Saturday, adding that it had heard she'd been briefly intubated.

The outlet said it had heard that Madonna was intubated for at least one night before having the tube removed. It however added that she's now said to be alert and recovering.
