Made In Bondi Star Lawson Mahoney Addresses Claims His Accent Is Fake On The Show

Made in Bondi star Lawson Mahoney has addressed the “allegations” surrounding his bizarre accent on the reality TV series in a super super serious Instagram video.

For folks who’ve yet to feast their eyes on the beast Made in Bondi, Channel 7’s newest reality TV show is a spin-off of the UK favourite Made in Chelsea.

The show is designed for us normies to have a cheeky perv on “the real lives and loves of young Sydney socialites living in the affluent Eastern Suburbs and the most famous beach in the world”.

Super boujee, super messy and dare I say, quite bloody interesting.

With the show kicking off in mid-August, some viewers noticed that 22-year-old model Lawson Mahoney had quite a quirky accent, with one X (formerly Twitter) user also stating his “over pronunciation of vowels ruins” the show.

Following the criticisms surrounding his vernacular on the luxe reality TV show, Lawson took to his Instagram story to address the allegation that it’s all fake.

“I’ve heard the whispers. I’ve heard them all through the grapevine and I wish to address these allegations,” Lawson began, with an empty schooey beside him.

“I have a unique way of speaking. My L’s are a little strange — a little South African.”

Following his little spiel on how he says his L’s, the Made in Bondi model then moved on to the way he pronounces T’s in words like “water”.

He claims the reason why he puts an emphasis on his T’s was because his grandma told him that if he wanted to be a movie star, that’s how he should speak.

“And I’m not sure if you watched the first five episodes but the scenes I’m having, I was a little nervous,” Lawson added.

“I apologise to anyone I offended and I also laugh like a seagull so I apologise to any seagulls I might’ve offended.”

Closing his statement-explainer-apology-hybrid, Lawson had a message for the haters, encouraging them to continue watching the reality TV clusterfuck.

“At the end of the day, if you’re hating on my voice then you must be watching it which is good in my books,” he laughed.

“Continue watching, continue loathing the way I speak and I’ll see you on Episode Two.”

Look, as someone who grew up in Western Sydney — which definitely has its own bloody dialect — I have no clue what a true Bondi person sounds like.

Coming across this bloke’s scene, I would assume this is how most Bondionians (is that what y’all call yourselves?) would sound like. But at the same time, Australia is such a cultural melting pot that I wouldn’t be surprised if someone had a unique accent on the show.

Also, I hate to say it, but the bloke is right. For everyone hating, y’all are watching the show — AKA any publicity is good publicity.

He got ya there!

You can watch Made In Bondi on Channel Seven or 7Plus.
