French President Emmanuel Macron has hit back at Donald Trump and foreign leaders, accusing them of trying to exploit France's tense social climate for political gain after a weekend of violence and looting drew worldwide attention.

Protests over the soaring cost-of-living led to widespread rioting and looting that shocked many French citizens. US President Donald Trump used the violence to rally his political supporters at campaign events.
