Despite being accused by New York Jets cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner for a low blow after a play, New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones assures nothing intentional happened on the field regarding the incident.
The NFL is reportedly investigating the incident that allegedly occurred in Sunday’s game.
Buy Patriots TicketsAccording to Gardner, Jones hit him in the “private parts” after he moved the third-year quarterback’s hand out of the way instead of helping him up after a play.
However, when appearing on “Jones & Mego”, Mac Jones made it clear that he sees things differently.
“Sauce is one of the best corners in the NFL,” said Jones. “I have a lot of respect for him, and on that play, nothing was intentional. I just got up and went back to the huddle and that’s it.”
When pushed further on the topic, Jones steered the conversation towards the Patriots’ preparation for their Week 4 road game against the Dallas Cowboys.
A closer video of the alleged incident was posted on social media by The Athletic’s Dianna Russini on Monday.

Even with the close-up video, it’s hard to know for sure if Jones tapped Gardner on his private part or just above. It’s also tough to tell intent. This isn’t an incident where Jones reared back and tapped Gardner in that region with any significant force.
No one can blame Jones for wanting to switch the subject back to football and the Cowboys. Anything is better than dealing with what might be the weirdest headline involving the Patriots all year.
