New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones might not be able to silence all of his critics, but he can sure make them look silly on the football field.
On Sunday, it was revealed that Jones had landed at No. 85 in the NFL’s Top 100 list, which is a ranking compiled by other players around the league. It’s a monumental accomplishment for the former No. 15 overall draft pick out of the University of Alabama.
Jones was thrown right into the fire as a rookie quarterback for one of the league’s most winningnest franchises coming off a year where they didn’t even make the playoffs.
The weight of the world has been on his shoulders since day one.
And to top it all off, he was playing in the shadows of the greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady. Sure, Cam Newton was the starting quarterback in 2020, but Jones was the one viewed through the long-term scope as Brady’s legitimate successor.
Not only did the rookie quarterback help lead the Patriots back to the playoffs, but he also received a Pro Bowl nod in his first year with the team. He finished the season throwing for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
And now, after only one year in the league, his name is already being propped up by his peers as one of the top 100 players in the game. Actions speak louder than words, and Jones is clearly giving critics something to think about.
