All traffic on the M56 has been stopped as emergency services respond to a "serious incident".
Traffic on the motorway, between junctions 12 (Runcorn) and 11 (Preston Brook), was stopped eastbound at around 8.40pm on Tuesday, September 6. Cheshire Police have since confirmed they have halted all traffic while they respond to a "serious incident" on the motorway.
Eyewitnesses have reported seeing multiple marked and unmarked police cars weaving through traffic to get to the incident. The North West Ambulance Service are also at the scene.

Motorway cameras show traffic queuing back past Frodsham as people are diverted away from the area. National Highways have now put a diversion in place, which will see motorists follow the Hollow Square via A557, A533, A558 and the A56 to rejoin the M56 at J11.
A spokesperson from National Highways said: "Preparations are being made to release all traffic caught up within the closure. It's highly likely it will be via the rear of the queue. We'll issue an updated tweet once plans are finalised."
The ECHO has approached Cheshire Police for a comment on the incident.
