M32 car fire triggered major emergency response

A car fire on the M32 approaching Bristol this morning triggered a huge emergency response. A slip road lane was closed as firefighters raced to the scene.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service was called to junction 1 on the M32 southbound at 1.30pm where they found an electrical fire in the boot of a vehicle. Firefighters used a breathing apparatus and a high-pressure hose reel to deal with the blaze.

The service added in its statement that there were no casualties as a result of the fire. The slip road was fully reopened shortly after the blaze was extinguished.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "At approximately 13:30 this afternoon, two crews from Temple Fire Station were mobilised to reports of a vehicle on fire on the M32 Southbound.

"On arrival, firefighters found a small electrical fire in the boot area of the vehicle. Wearing one breathing apparatus, crews used one high pressure hose reel to extinguish the fire. There were thankfully no casualties.

"Highways were also in attendance."
