This week, BBC iPlayer gave us Lynley, a retelling of the classic The Inspector Lynley Mysteries novels rather than a reboot of the 2000s TV series.
Across its four-episode season, we've got new cases to crack and new suspects to blame. On top of this, there are class wars, rookie mistakes and a frosty partnership between Inspector Lynley (Leo Suter) and DS Havers (Ted Lasso's Sofia Barclay).
I know what you're thinking – four episodes just isn't enough time to get into the swing of things. With that in mind, surely Lynley season 2 will be happening, right? This is a BBC crime drama, after all (you only need to look to Death in Paradise to see how long these things can last).
While the BBC hasn't confirmed any plans as of yet, Suter and Barclay are keen to get stuck in. In fact, they think we've only just scratched the surface in terms of world-building.

"I would love that," Suter begins to say about a second season. "After our four episodes, there's still so much more scope and places to go. We never go and see Lynley's home life, it's always in his phone. So there's that whole world to unpick.
"I would relish that chance, and, I think Sophia is probably the same. We fell in love with these characters, and there's so much, more to them, and more mysteries to solve."
Barclay adds, "At the end of season 1, you still really feel that even though they found the camaraderie, they're still very different people with very different viewpoints, worldviews and experiences. So what I would really be excited about is finding out how they clash, not just when they have judgments and they don't know each other. How do they clash once they have really learned to respect each other and really lean on each other?
"The stakes are so much higher, in a way, if you are going to go up against someone for all the reasons I feel are very personal to you, who you actually respect. You go harder, deeper, go to the ends of the earth, because it's so much more important to you. And that next iteration of their relationship also really excites me."
Frankly, I think it would be a slam-dunk for the BBC. Lynley is also across Britbox for international users meaning less money spent for a much bigger impact. To me, it's obvious that Lynley should return for a second season – there's enough mileage in the format for it to rival other shows... and who doesn't want more whodunnits to solve?
