Luxome Luxury Sheet Set − comfortable, cool, but creased

Luxome Luxury Sheet Set with a cozy throw. Two initial ornaments, reading 'X' and 'O', in a tray on the bed.

A few months ago I received a Luxome bedding bundle, including a Luxury Sheet Set and two premium pillowcases, with a weighted blanket thrown in for good measure. When I started testing, I had just moved into a new apartment. I had neither food in my fridge nor art on my walls, but I was sleeping under some of the world's best bamboo bedding.

Fast forward to the present day: I've tested Luxome bedding through heat waves and cold snaps and I can confirm that it's suitable for all seasons. These sheets can withstand the wear and tear of nightly use and they get softer with each wash.

As H&G's resident sleep writer, I've tried and tested some of the world's best bed sheets, and Luxome's Luxury Sheet Set is right up there. I sleep under sheets for weeks, if not months, to monitor their performance over time. I strip my bed, wash the sheets, and make my bed again to give you the fullest possible picture of what it might be like to sleep with Luxome sheets.

Unboxing the Luxome bedding

My Luxury Sheet Set, and Luxury Pillowcases, all arrived in the same cardboard box, double-wrapped to withstand knocks and bumps in transit. The weighted blanket came wrapped in plastic, which was slightly disappointing to see. It seemed like a strange oversight, given that the sheets and cases came bundled together in a fabric carrying bag, which is great for regifting and makes for easy storage.

The Luxury Sheet Set includes a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and two pillowcases. It comes in every size, from Twin to California King, including Split King to suit couples who share a bed, but like their own space. I tested the set in stone gray, which should complement every bedroom color palette, but you could shop the sheets in blush pink or sapphire blue, as well as a wide range of cool neutrals.

If you're keen to upgrade your sleep, but you're wedded to your current sheets, you could invest in a Luxury Pillowcase Set to suit your full-, queen-, or king-sized bed. This way, you'll get two pillowcases, and a slightly wider choice of colors, including surf and ocean blue.

Test 1: Luxury Sheet Set

Each flat sheet, fitted sheet, and pillowcase in the Luxury Sheet Set is made from bamboo viscose. Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on the planet. Eco-conscious shoppers can sleep easy in the knowledge that they aren't depleting the earth of its natural resources. I'd also recommend the Luxury Sheet Set to hot sleepers. Naturally moisture-wicking and antimicrobial, bamboo busts the bacteria that breeds in hot, damp environments, such as bedrooms, so that you can keep cool and sleep fresh.

According to the Luxome website, each item in the Luxury Sheet Set features a thread count of 400: the highest of any bamboo viscose bedding ever made. Now, I don't tend to set much store by thread count. A high thread count isn't the be all and end all: it's the thickness, and quality of those threads that matters more than their quantity. Thick threads should feel silky and smooth against your skin – and, in fairness, that's exactly how I'd describe the Luxury Sheet Set.

However, in the image above you can see my only real complaint: the creases. As a general rule, bamboo bedding is prone to wrinkling: the fault isn't specific to the Luxury Sheet Set. Normally, I'd tell you it's nothing an iron couldn't fix, but Luxome make it very clear that these sheets ought not to be ironed or dry cleaned. You could throw them in the dryer with the rest of your delicates, and maybe a dryer ball or two, but you'll need to whisk them straight out of the machine to prevent further creasing.

Test 2: Luxury Pillowcase Set

When it comes to pillowcases, I don't mind creases as much. I'm more concerned with the cooling properties of the case. Sure enough, Luxome's Luxury Pillowcases wrinkled a little as I tossed and turned, but the bamboo weave kept me just the right side of cool and dry. Since bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic, I'd recommend these cases to sensitive sleepers, as well as anyone who suffers from allergies.

As for appearances, these pillowcases are plain, but pretty. Envelope closures on either side of the case helped to keep things neat, while the stone gray shade took on a real sheen in natural light.

While the Luxury Sheet Set comes with two pillowcases, there's an option to add an extra two cases to your order. This way, you can save a few dollars while you update your stock of spare bedding. You could always shop the Luxury Pillowcase Set separately, as long as you're looking for full-, queen- or king-sized cases.

Cleaning the Luxome weighted blanket set

Both the Luxury Sheet Set and the Luxury Pillowcase Set are machine-washable and dryer-safe for quick and convenient cleaning. Luxome recommends separating your sets from the rest of your laundry to avoid zippers and hooks, washing in cold water and tumble drying on low.

If you've got a delicate setting on your machine, use it: one of my Luxury Pillowcases slipped through the net and got washed with cottons. Since then, it's slightly lost its sheen and softness. To keep your sheets in good condition, you should refrain from using detergent, bleach, and other additives, such as fabric softeners and scent boosters, and resist the urge to iron.

How does Luxome bedding rate online?

Each bedding bundle boasts thousands of five-star reviews on the Luxome site, praising their plush comfort and cooling properties. On Amazon, some reviewers share my concerns that the sheets are prone to wrinkling, though this is par for the course with bamboo bedding. A few customers have struggled to stretch their Luxury Sheet Set over their deep mattress and found that their sheets kept slipping off the bed.

How does it compare to other sheet sets?

Luxome's Luxury Sheet Set, Luxury Pillowcase Set, and Weighted Blanket are all made from premium bamboo viscose. This material is naturally moisture-wicking and antimicrobial, proven to bust the bacteria that breeds in warm, damp environments, such as bedrooms. If you suffer from night sweats or hot flashes, or you simply tend to run a little warm, you should get on well with Luxome bedding.

Luxome sheets are known for their dramatic drape. I'd recommend these sheets to eco-conscious shoppers, who like the look of cotton sateen, but are keen to source more sustainable materials. If you're really hot on ethical bamboo bedding, I'd recommend shopping at Ettitude. Their Signature Sateen Sheet Set is made from bamboo lyocell, rather than viscose, so it's free from toxic solvents. Plus, it's $25 cheaper than Luxome's Luxury Sheet Set.

For sheer affordability, you might be better off with Martha Stewart bedding. The sheets are made from 100% cotton, combining durability and breathability, while the blankets offer plush comfort for a fraction of the Luxome prices.

Should you buy Luxome bedding?

I'd recommend Luxome bedding to almost everyone. Bamboo is naturally thermoregulating to keep you warm in the winter and cool for the summer. I tested these sheets and pillowcases from the start of fall to the depths of winter and I never once woke up in a cold sweat. With that said, Luxome bedding isn't for everyone. Buyers on a budget might be better off with the best affordable bed sheets
