Luton Town have confirmed they will immediately issue a stadium ban for a fan who appeared to hit out at Amad.
The Hatters booked their place in the Championship play-off final on Tuesday night after they overturned a first-leg deficit to knock out Sunderland. The Black Cats took a 2-1 lead to Kenilworth Road, but lost 2-0 on the night to end their season.
The defeat also marked the final game of Amad’s impressive spell Wearside. The winger, who signed for United in a deal worth £37.5 million, has flourished under Tony Mowabray in his first full season of senior football.
Amad, 20, scored a rocket in the first leg but was unable to will his side back into the tie away from home. And his night was made even more challenging after being confronted by a fan in the home stands.
Whilst attempting to retrieve the ball to take a throw-in, Sky Sports captured the moment a supporter leant forward and made contact with his back. Amad gestured towards the referee, before the match resumed.
However, Luton have now confirmed they will take action against the individual, with the police also opening an investigation. A club statement reads: “Luton Town is aware of an incident involving a home spectator and a Sunderland player during last night’s Championship play-off semi-final at Kenilworth Road.
“A lengthy Club ban will be immediately issued and the incident is now also subject to a police investigation.
“Luton Town wishes to clarify that any such supporter behaviour is not acceptable in any way and will take swift, appropriate action to ensure that similar actions do not happen again. No further comment will be made by the Club at this time.”
Mirror Football have contacted Bedfordshire Police for comment.
Amad scored 14 goals during his season with Sunderland and posted shortly after the full-time whistle: “Hi guys, i know you are sad, we all are. a group of young guys who fought until the last minute, I can only be proud to have been part of this team.
“No regrets, just proud of what each of us has become over the course of the season. Thank you for the love. HAWAY THE LADS.”
Mowbray has already confirmed that Amad is to return to his parent club, with United boss Erik ten Hag keen to make his own assessment on the Ivory Coast international.
"The frustration is this team is not going to be this team," he said. "There's no Diallo next season, no Joe Gelhardt.
"The players, our players, we've got to make them better, more confident, and add to them; find another player who can do what Diallo has done this season, add goals, craft and quality."
Manchester Evening News last week reported that Amad is set to be a part of United’s squad when they head to Wembley for the FA Cup final with Manchester City. Although it is unlikely he will feature, Ten Hag is keen for him to quickly reintegrate within the squad before a pivotal summer.
