Lukasz Fabianski sends Ukraine and Andriy Yarmolenko message after West Ham win over Wolves

Lukasz Fabianski says everyone at West Ham is behind Andriy Yarmolenko and will continue to show him and Ukraine support amid Russia's invasion of the country.

Yarmolenko was expected back in training today after a spell away from the club on compassionate leave due to the turmoil affecting his homeland. The Ukraine captain was absent form the matchday squad as West Ham beat Wolves 1-0, with many of the Hammers players dedicating the victory to their teammate.

Ahead of the match, the Hammers showed their support for Yarmolenko and Ukraine by warming up in his No.7 shirt and posting messages on digital screens both inside and outside the stadium.

Wolves showed their solidarity with West Ham and Ukraine with training shirts bearing the message: "No more war."

West Ham's Polish goalkeeper Fabianski spoke after the game about his feelings towards the invasion and how it had emotionally affected him and all at West Ham.

"I think we have been very touched as well by the whole situation. It’s just scary, it’s a scary situation,” Fabianski said.

"But we try to support Andriy and his family as much as we can. It’s been very emotional for me personally as well because in some way I feel like I am very close to the situation because we as a country try to help the Ukrainian people so much. They are so brave.

"I think the way we took the stance [before the Wolves match], I am not saying only us but the whole football world, everyone is supporting Ukraine.

"I just hope that it is going to be resolved in a good way. We really wish Yarma all the best. We are really supporting. We try to help him as much as we can and I think that was a very beautiful moment today before the game. He’s got all our support and so does the whole of Ukraine."

David Moyes also had a strong message surrounding the situation and is happy to give Yarmolenko any support he needs.

"Nobody over here, or in this part of the world is recognising war, we do not want it, we do not want to hear about it. We support Ukraine," Moyes said.

"We want to try and support our player Yarmolenko. He has some time off and hoping he will be back tomorrow but we are more interested that he has his family safe and everyone connected with him is okay."
