Luis Suarez has perfect Uruguay response to Ghana 'devil' jibe over 2010 World Cup handball

Luis Suarez has found the limelight once more as his Uruguay side prepare to face Ghana in the final round of World Cup group stages matches. The South American team have history with their African opponents having denied them a place in the 2010 semi-finals.

That game has gone down in history as one of the most controversial after Suarez cleared a late header from Dominic Adiyiah off the line with his hand. A penalty was given and Suarez sent off for his 'save' but Asamoah Gyan blazed the spotkick over the bar.

Uruguay went on to win the resultant penalty shoot-out and Suarez's unsportspersonship actions were ultimately rewarded. After the match the Liverpool striker claimed the block was 'save of the tournament' and that Diego Maradona's Hand of God belonged to him.

Suarez, who has never been shy of being in the headlines, is 35 now and past his peak, but he does have a chance to inflict more pain onto Ghana. Far from their 'golden generation' which was seen in 2010, this current side is full of younger players that have surprised many at the tournament already.

Uruguay know that only a victory over their opponents will give them a chance to qualify for the last-16, but even then they are relying on Portugal to beat South Korea, and to better the goal difference gap. Ghana will be through with a win and would likely qualify in second with a draw too.

The atcual group itself has taken a backseat in the build-up to the game though as Suarez's past ventures take centre-stage, over 12 years on from the original drama.

When told that he is considered to be 'the devil himself' by many in Ghana, Suarez responded: "I don't apologise about that... the Ghana player missed a penalty, not me."
