LUCIANO SPALLETTI insists striker Victor Osimhen will become the 'full package' in European football as he aims to fire Napoli to Champions League victory over Rangers.
The Nigerian netted his fifth goal in nine appearances this term as he hit a late winner in the Serie A showdown with Roma on Sunday evening.
Now Osimhen has Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side in his sights as Napoli attempt to continue their unbeaten run and all-but secure top spot in Group A this term.
Napoli are three points clear in Serie A after an eleventh successive win and boss Spalletti is confident there is even more to come from his star man as he issued an ominous warning to Rangers ahead of their European clash on Wednesday night.
“The match was full of difficult moments, but we deserved to win," Spalletti said. “Even though we had some difficulties on account of how Roma played too, we always sought to take the initiative and play our game. You can always see our proactive attitude and this is something that must always characterise this team.
“We had a lot of possession, even if we weren’t always precise in our play. We made some unusual mistakes when on the ball and this meant that we struggled to create clear opportunities that we could make the most of.
“Roma are a physical team and they tried to make it difficult for us across the pitch to disrupt our rhythm. It was a very tactical game and we managed to steer it in our favour by following our instincts and qualities.
“We created three or four chances which could have been offered a turning point. We did really well to try something different from the norm, demonstrating the resources and ability we have to change up our game.
“Victor can change the game in an instant. We know his characteristics and abilities. We understand what he can give the team and the great qualities he possesses.
“When he learns to control his impulses, he’ll be the full package. We need his physicality too because he helps us a lot in the air, even in defence too.
"We are feeding it into him better than last season and he is responding with great progress and amazing goals like [on Sunday]."
Osimhen has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs in recent weeks as some of Europe's biggest names keep close tabs on the 23-year-old.
But the striker is only focused on the job in hand after marking a special occasion off the park with a crucial strike at the Stadio Olimpico.
Osimhen said: “I’m happy about my goal and the win. Congratulations to everyone. We are a great team and want to continue like this.
"As always, we must now look ahead to the next game. We have to focus on each match at a time and always give our all.
“I made the shape of a heart to dedicate this goal to my wife and daughter. I’m happy and this evening, we got a deserved win which was really important.”
Napoli have scored 17 goals in their four Group A encounters so far and sit clear of Liverpool with a perfect Champions League record.
The Azzurri are heavy favourites to see off Rangers and defender Juan Jesus insists there will be no slacking from a squad that have the bit between their teeth this term.
Jesus said: "The difference between this season and last season is the incredible mentality in the dressing room.
"At the start of the season, there were so many people who did not believe in this group and had written us off and that motivated us I think.
"We have all worked so hard to improve ourselves and the important thing is to try and get better with every game.
"We have hard games to come and people are forgetting we are only in October. There are still some very good teams we have to play in the league and in Europe.
"Our fate is in the hands of the manager and us players."
