Louisiana State University freshman running back Trey Holly has found himself in serious legal trouble after being charged with three felony charges in connection to an alleged attempted murder at an apartment complex shooting. The incident occurred on February 9 and was reported to the Union Parish Sheriff's Office.
Holly, who is just 19 years old, turned himself in on Thursday and was subsequently taken into custody at the Union Parish Detention Center. He now faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons (on public roadway), and aggravated criminal damage to property. With an astounding bond set at $512,000, the severity of the charges is not to be taken lightly.
Authorities have revealed that Holly was one of three individuals who were arrested in connection with the shooting that took place within the city limits of Farmerville, Louisiana. Alongside Holly, 18-year-old Jordan Ramond Jones was also charged with attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons. Similarly, bond for Jones was set at a staggering $510,000. Furthermore, a 16-year-old male juvenile was also involved and faced charges including attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, aggravated criminal damage to property, and illegal possession of a handgun. Mind-bogglingly, the juvenile's bond was set at $522,000.
Fortunately, the victims of the shooting are expected to survive their injuries. Both were discovered at the scene suffering from gunshot wounds, and thanks to medical intervention, it is believed that they will pull through.
Upon learning of the incident, the Union Parish Sheriff's Office immediately launched an investigation through its Criminal Investigations Division. It has since been determined that the shooting transpired as a result of earlier altercations that occurred at the same apartment complex.
In response to these shocking developments, LSU has taken swift action. Holly has been indefinitely suspended from all team activities, as confirmed by an LSU spokesperson. The university released a statement addressing the situation, expressing awareness of the student-athlete's arrest and affirming their adherence to departmental policies. No further comments have been provided, as they want to respect the ongoing judicial process.
Prior to this unfortunate incident, Holly had just concluded his freshman season with LSU. He managed to secure one touchdown and racked up 110 yards from 11 carries, an impressive start to his college football career. Graduating from Union Parish High School, he had signed with LSU, coming in as the No. 25 player in the state of Louisiana. In fact, Holly holds the remarkable record for the highest number of rushing yards in Louisiana high school history with a staggering 10,523 yards.
The repercussions of Trey Holly's alleged involvement in this attempted murder case are significant, not only for him but also for the LSU football program. As the legal process unfolds, it is vital to remember that individuals are innocent until proven guilty. Nevertheless, it serves as a stern warning about the consequences of one's actions, even for promising athletes with seemingly bright futures.
