Love Island star Laura Anderson says single mums should be 'celebrated not criticised'

Laura Anderson has hit out against criticism against single mothers and says 'their strength should be celebrated'.

The Love Island alumni is currently pregnant with her first child with ex-boyfriend Gary Lucy after the pair met on Celebs Go Dating last year. Laura, 34, announced her pregnancy earlier this year in a sweet Instagram post for her 1.5million followers before shortly confirming her split from Gary, 41.

The Footballers Wives star shares four kids already with ex-wife Natasha Gray, who he was married to from 2014 - 2018. After meeting Laura on the E4 celebrity dating show, the pair enjoyed a whirlwind five-month relationship before going their separate ways.

Gary explained: "Laura did want me to move but I have my responsibilities here. I have four kids and all the things that go along with that so it’s very difficult, if not impossible, to uproot at this time."

The actor explained that he needs to remain in Essex where his children live after he and their mother divorced. "I wish I could break myself in half. I would if I could," the Hollyoaks star told The Sun.

Speaking about Gary's claims, Laura denied that she asked her ex beau to move country and opened up about her decision to raise her baby in Scotland.

The former Emirates air stewardess told OK! Magazine: “I think sometimes people stay in relationships, maybe when they shouldn’t, which doesn’t help the child in the long run.

“It’s a shame how single mothers can be portrayed in the media. Their strength should be celebrated, not criticised."

She added: “I’ve received backlash, which I never would have expected being pregnant – everything I do is for my baby and nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors.

"It’s such a big responsibility to take on single parenthood. It’s f*****g scary! And it wasn’t an easy decision at all. I worry about it every day.”
