Love Island's stylist snaps up used bikinis and watermelon visor on eBay for new cast

Love Island's stylist has already started snapping up second hand bikinis and quirky straw hats from eBay ahead of the new series, which kicks off next month.

Last week, the hit ITV dating show made the huge announcement that it would be ditching fast fashion brands in favour to be more sustainable.

But one seller on eBay spotted that one of their items had been bagged by Love Island's stylist Amy Bannerman, who uses the buyer name loveisla-87.

Love Island fan Lucy Earnshaw shared a video to her TikTok where she showed followers what she had sold lately on the selling site - and couldn't believe it when she saw it was heading to eBay's head offices to be used for the show.

"Here I am, casually having a clear out on eBay, all my summer stuff that I just don't wear anymore - this little cute watermelon sun visor that I don't wear any more is included in that," she said.

She then shared a photo of the hat, which isn't what you'd usually see on the prime time show.

"I don't remember how long I've had it but I've not worn it in a while. So I thought it deserves a better home," she continued.

She then shared the address that her watermelon hat was going to be dispatched to and noticed that it said eBay.

"That home was going to be eBay though, so I thought that was a bit strange!, but I didn't notice this handle at the time," she said pointing to the buyer's name.

The TikToker then started to show all the coverage that the show has got recently about them working with eBay and she exclaimed: "I think it might be on Love Island!"

She then zoomed on an article that had written about Amy specifically, and she said: "It's actually going to Amy, right everyone we need to keep our eyes peeled."

According to One Represents: Fashion, Amy was Cosmopolitan's Fashion Director and has a "huge passion for second hand clothes" and "regularly wears these piece in her shoots."

Love Island changed its strategy after it was hit with backlash from environmental groups and sustainability advocates who said that the programme encouraged a disposable attitude to fashion.

Mike Spencer, the executive producer of Love Island, said: “As a show, we strive to be a more eco-friendly production with more focus on ways in which we can visibly show this on screen … This partnership will see our islanders get to dive into the shared wardrobes, and help themselves to some incredible preloved clothes sourced from eBay.”

As well as becoming more thoughtful about the planet, the producers are inviting contestants to attend inclusivity training seminars and will have 24 hour access to mental health support experts.

They will also be offered guidance on how to cope with the instant fame that the show brings.
