Love Island's Samie Elishi issues health update after tearfully announcing cancer scare

Love Island finalist Samie Elishi has given fans an update having tearfully revealed a cancer scare after worried fans pointed out a lump on her neck.

Her followers suggested she get checked out and she is pleased they did after discovering a 5cm lump on her thyroid.

The 22-year-old, who recently split from co-star Tom Clare, last week broke down in tears as she discussed her health issues and revealed she's had tests done.

Telling her 646,000 Instagram followers she now has a date secured for the operation, she can start to plan for the op after getting some news.

Posting a selfie, she wrote: "Thyroid update - we have a surgery date."

While she did not reveal when it the date is, the surgery will remove half of her thyroid and discover whether the lump is cancerous or not.

It was Love Island viewers and fans who spotted the lump in the first place, bombarding Samie's family and friends with messages whilst she was in the villa - which prompted her to get it checked upon leaving the show.

Samie shared the surgery news during a YouTube video last week, where she also addressed her break-up from Tom.

Explaining the health scare, she explained that it is a "5cm lump on my thyroid", before sharing that the medical professionals graded her lump a "grade 3," which means that they can't tell for sure if it's cancerous or not and it's a "grey area".

"Basically what they do is they cut your neck... I shouldn't be upset because I'm so grateful that people messaged and I've caught it now. I'm so grateful," she emotionally said of the surgery while tearing up.

Continuing: "But it is still obviously really scary. I'm a young girl, I'm realising how common it is now. I even saw Demi Jones went through it."

If the lump is cancerous, Samie will need to undergo another operation to have the rest of her thyroid removed.

While she has told fans she's going to share her journey because she wants to help others and it's "so important we all know about these things".

The video was posted just days after her split from Tom was revealed, a month after they left the Love Island South Africa villa.

Footballer Tom was first to address their break-up, posting an Instagram story to confirm to fans that things hadn't worked out, but confirming that he and Samie were on good terms.

While Samie's video then explained: "Me and Tom have broken up. It's ended on good terms. No one's done anything bad to each other, there's still lots and lots of love there. It just wasn't working on the outside and we both agreed on the majority of the things.

"There's no bad blood there, me and Tom. I would never say a bad word about him and he wouldn't about me."

The star continued: "We just weren't working on the outside. I feel like when you come out of the villa you've got so much pressure and so many other things to worry about that plays a huge factor in a relationship."
