Love Island's Ron and Lana 'singled out' for win already but fans raise split fears

Love Island has only just returned to screens, but bookies have already singled out one couple as potential winners - Lana Jenkins and Ron Hall - with many viewers in firm agreement that they're the ones to beat so far. However, after Wednesday's episode, some fans have raided fears his head could be turned.

The new series of the hit ITV dating show arrived on screen with added buzz, down to the fact that Maya Jama is new Love Island presenter, with Twitter going wild for her and soon as the former Walk the Line host appeared on screen for Monday's launch episode.

Maya went into the new Love Island villa not long after the boys made their entrance and, after firing some questions and getting to know the lads, Maya's first task as presenter was to lead the first coupling up of the new series, as the girls arrived one by one.

It took just minutes of all the early pairings decided and the first chats with one another playing out, for many Love Island viewers to name Ron and Lana their favourites. Ron is the programme's first partially sighted contestant, having lost the sight in one eye in a freak footballing accident as a youngster, while Lana appeared in hit ITV sitcom Benidorm as child.

After bombshell Tom 'stole' Olivia from Will, the farmer made a play for Lana but she shut him down straight away, telling him she didn't feel a spark between.

And her rejection fuelled the fire of the already favourable odds on Lana and Ron winning Love Island. That was until bombshell Zara asked Ron out on a date and he conceded that Lana wasn't his 'usual type' and flirted up a storm with the newcomer.

Not impressed with what they saw on screen, one concerned viewer tweeted: "l Lana girl it’s not looking good bb Ron’s head ready to turn," with another posting: "Wait! Ron went all Luca 2.0 with Lana only for his head to turn at the first bombshell RED FLAG"

Four separate bookmakers have Ron and Lana as early favourites, with BetVictor, William Hill and Betway all having them at the top of the betting. BetVictor have them at 5/1, William Hill and Betway both have them at 9/2.

William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “The Islanders were dealt an early bombshell at the end of the series opener on Monday, but our punters still feel confident with Lana and Ron’s chances of winning this year’s show in South Africa.

“We are 9/2 for the ‘power couple’ to go all the way, with the next fancied couple, Tanya and Shaq, double the price for victory at 9/1.

“Lana and Ron have also made positive moves in the top male and female markets, with their retrospective prices of 9/4 and 5/2 reflecting the support the duo already have from the British public.”
