Love Is Blind star claims show has left him on the brink of ‘homelessness’

Love Is Blind star Nick Thompson has claimed that the Netflix dating show has “ruined [his] life completely” after he was laid off from his job and now fears he could lose his home.

Thompson took part in the show’s second series in 2021 where he fell head over heels for Daniele Bruhl. A year after they married, the pair filed for divorce in August 2022.

Following his participation in the series, Thompson claimed that he hasn’t been able to find work after he was laid off from his job as a VP of marketing for a software firm in November.

Speaking to MailOnline, he said: “I’m having an incredibly hard time finding [a new job].

Thompson married Daniele Bruhl on season two (Netflix)

“I’ve got two months left in the bank to pay my mortgage. I can’t get a job because people don’t take me seriously. I was a VP in software for five years, so it’s not like I don’t have track record of experience or success.

“I wish I could just go back to having a nice life that I had built for myself, instead of wondering whether my mortgage is gonna get paid.”

Thompson also alleged he was paid $10,000 (£7,900) for 10 weeks of filming and has received no residual pay despite the dating show’s success.

He reflected: “When you think about the amount of money that’s being made, and the way that it’s the path for future seasons, and the fact that anyone can go on and watch me… and I’m going to be homeless.”

In a separate interview, Thompson believed that participating in the series may have led to him to being laid off, claiming colleagues “treated him a little bit differently”.

He told Entertainment Tonight: “That’s speculation, of course, but after the show came out... I definitely felt like I wasn’t taken as seriously anymore.

“People would treat me a little bit differently and not take my ideas or my work as seriously.”

In April, Thompson announced he had co-founded the UCAN Foundation, Unscripted Cast Advocacy Network, for better duty of care for reality stars.

He shared on Instagram: “Our goal there is to take care of the immediate thing right now, which is that we have cast members that need legal and mental health support.

“So we built the network. There are over 400 therapists, over 50 entertainment lawyers, that are in our network, that are there ready to help.”

The Standard has contacted Netflix for comment.
