Louisiana Tech Suspends Player Who Stomped on Opponent

Louisiana Tech announced on Saturday the program’s decision on discipline for linebacker Brevin Randle in response to his dirty actions during Friday’s 24–10 win over UTEP.

Randle, a redshirt senior, received an indefinite suspension from La. Tech for stomping on UTEP offensive lineman Steven Hubbard’s head after a play in the second quarter, according to athletic director Eric Wood.

In his statement, Wood shared both he and coach Sonny Cumbie informed Randle of the news before acknowledging the linebacker’s remorse while denouncing the incident.

“In speaking with Brevin, he acknowledges that his action was wrong and understands the consequence of that action,” said Wood. “Our University, athletic department, and football program believe in culture, class, and competitive excellence and in no way was that displayed in that moment.”

Despite avoiding a flag on Friday, Randle’s incident not only drew backlash from his school but also on-air, as the CBS broadcasting crew took note of his stomp on a prone Hubbard as he laid on the ground.

A transfer from Stephen F. Austin, Randle, who played four years for the Lumberjacks, has recorded 46 tackles and two sacks in six games in his first year with the Bulldogs.
