Louis Saha disagrees with Everton's Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney decisions

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney would have been the 'logical choice' for the Everton job according to one of his ex-teammates.

Rooney, who used to play for the Toffees before joining United, was tipped by the bookies for the Goodison Park role. However, the current Derby County manager ruled himself out of the running, stating he was happy at Pride Park.

Those in Everton's hierarchy decided to appoint former Rams and Chelsea boss Frank Lampard to takeover from the sacked Rafa Benitez.

Speaking to William Hill, Louis Saha believes that Rooney would have been the better option for the Merseyside club.

"I would have seen Rooney as the more logical choice as he knows the club," he said.

"Lampard has experience at Chelsea, but Rooney would have a good understanding of who to talk to at the club, what he could receive, with a stronger support in many ways.

"It was a choice by Everton, they made it, and that’s it.

"As someone who respects the player, I’ve seen the job Rooney is doing and what he’s dedicated at Derby.

"I hope he gets the job he wants later as he’s shown great class."

Saha went on to add that Lampard should look to bring United loanee Donny van de Beek straight into the first team in order to help boost their chances of climbing the league.
