RTE star Lottie Ryan has opened up about “angry people” who used to come to her family home with golf clubs.
The daughter of the late Gerry Ryan was discussing a segment with Jennifer Zamparelli on their podcast, Jen and Lottie Do… Parenting when she made the shocking revelation. Jen opened up about her childhood growing up when people would knock on her family home door and run before her dad, a former Garda, who would chase the culprits down the street.
But Lottie revealed: “We had weird people knocking on my family home, probably for different reasons though. Some people were angry, Jen. There were people who would turn up with golf clubs. We had those people.”
But Lottie declined to specify why angry people would turn up at the door of her former Clontarf family home in Dublin. The Dubliner also opened up about her annoyance at being trolled online for living in a two-bedroom apartment with her son Wolf and her husband Fabio.

“People saying to me, ‘So Lottie, when are you going to get into a house?’ I live in a two-bedroom apartment and I’m very, very proud of my two-bedroom apartment.
“I worked my a**e off for my two-bedroom apartment and I find it highly insulting that people think now that I have a child that I couldn’t possibly dream of raising him in an apartment.
“There seems to be a big issue about the garden. It’s raining 90 per cent of the year.”
She added: “I do have a massive park beside me and I say that in defence of myself.
"I don't understand the obsession with needing a bloody piece of land to raise your family. I don't get it.”
Lottie also revealed she plans to change her surname to Aprile after tying the knot to Fabio back in May 2017. It comes after her mother-in-law made an emotional speech about it during her wedding.
“At my wedding, Fabio’s mum made a speech. There was this thing. I wasn’t taking Fabio’s name. I was just taking a while, but I will.”
She suggested ‘Lottie Ryan Aprile’, with Jennifer responding: “I thought you were that anyway, no?”
Lottie decided: “I think Lottie Ryan Aprile.”
Her mother-in-law has wanted her to make the change since their wedding in May 2017.
“At the wedding, there was an ongoing conversation that I wasn’t going to take the name, because I was like, ‘Listen, I’m an old lady now. I don’t need to be changing my name. I’m in my thirties’.
“I think she [her mother-in-law] really wanted me to. At the wedding, she got up to make a speech and she was saying this lovely poem. She said, ‘He has stolen your heart and now you will steal his name. Lottie Aprile’.”
She joked she’s been under “a lot of pressure” since her wedding day and instead of correcting her mother-in-law she cheered for ‘Lottie Aprile’.
