Newcastle United's move for free agent Loris Karius has taken supporters by surprise this morning, following an injury to Karl Darlow in training. The Magpies are now short of options between the sticks following his injury and Martin Dubravka's departure for Manchester United.
The former Liverpool shot stopper looks set to pen a short term deal with Eddie Howe's side after leaving Anfield this summer. Chronicle Live has taken a look at the German's career to profile the incoming shot stopper.
Karius came through the youth ranks with Stuttgart before spending some time with Manchester City's academy in 2009 but would leave the Etihad in 2012. He kickstarted his professional career with Mainz 05 following a successful loan from the Premier League side.

The German shot-stopper was capped by his country at youth level and would become a first team regular with the Bundesliga side. His performances were only bettered by Manuel Neuer in the 2015-16 campaign, according to fellow Bundesliga players.
Karius signed a five-year deal with Liverpool for a reported fee of £4.75 million and he was given the number one shirt. The German was a regular between the sticks but was prone to a number of costly errors, none bigger than in the 2017-18 Champions League final which resulted in two Real Madrid goals.
He struggled to resurrect his Liverpool career and loan spells with Besiktas and Union Berlin would follow. The 29-year-old would leave Liverpool and become a free agent this summer.
