Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring came out an incredible 21 years ago, becoming an instant classic as they brought J. R. R. Tolkien's books to life.
The ensemble cast brought together unknown actors who would be propelled to stardom and stars who were already household names.
Like their on-screen counterparts, the Lord of the Rings stars bonded so much they even got matching tattoos to honour the epic film trilogy.
They even reunited for an epic cave troll fight on a night out in 2017.
As Elijah Wood, who played Frodo Baggins, turns 40 on Friday - let's take a look at what his fellow cast-mates are doing now - from marriage and babies to new careers, controversies and one sad death.

After his success playing Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings films, Elijah continued to star in hit films including Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sin City, Everything is Illuminated and I Don't Feel at Home in this World Anymore.
He's left his voice to animated film Happy Feet, where he played Mumble, and several video games.
The 40-year-old also founded his own film production company called SpectreVision in 2010, and a record label called Simian Records in 2005 which was dissolved ten years later.
In 2017, he began a relationship with Danish film producer Mette-Marie Kongsved, and three years later they welcomed their first baby together.
Before Mette-Marie, he dated US actress and punk musician Pamela Racine, and before that another actress named Kerry Bische.
Last November, Elijah sparked controversy when he purchased some NFTs (non-fungible tokens) from a cartoonist who had previously created racist depictions of marginalised people.
He made a statement denouncing the art and donating funds of the sale to charity.
"After previously purchasing some NFTs, as well as being gifted one, I was made aware of some of the artist's prior disturbing cartoons," he said in a statement shared on Twitter.
"Upon learning of this, I immediately sold the NFTs as I wholly denounce any form of racism.
"I have donated the funds from the sale of the NFTs to LDF and Black Lives Matter."
Sean Astin
Sean played Frodo's dedicated and loyal best friend Samwise Gamgee.
Afterwards, he continued acting, notably playing Doug Whitmore in the Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore flick 50 First Dates.
More recently, he played Bob Newby in Netflix Sci-fi series Stranger Things, and Ed in No Good Nick.
The 50-year-old wrote a book about his experiences on the LOTR set called There and Back Again.
In May 2020, Sean joined Josh Gad's YouTube series Reunited Apart, which reunites the casts of popular movies through video-conferencing, and promotes donations to non-profit charities.
Others including the episode were his fellow The Lord of the Rings cast-mates Sean Bean, Orlando Bloom, Billy Boyd, Ian McKellen, Dominic Monaghan, Viggo Mortensen, Miranda Otto, John Rhys-Davies, Andy Serkis, Liv Tyler, Karl Urban, and Elijah, plus writer Philippa Boyens and director Peter Jackson.
Sean has been married to Christine Harrel since 1992, and they have three daughters together named Alexandra, Elizabeth and Isabella.
A keen athlete, Sean has run marathons and completed an Iron Man Challenge.
Orlando Bloom
Orlando played hunky elf Legolas in the trilogy, a role which made him an international sex symbol.
He went on to star as Paris in Troy opposite Brad Pitt, as well as playing Balian de Ibelin in Kingdom of Heaven and Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
Since 2019, he's starred in the Amazon Prime series Carnival Row, Netflix comedy The Prince, and had stage acting roles including in Romeo and Juliet.
In 2015 he received the BAFTA Britannia Humanitarian Award for his philanthropy.
Orlando married model Miranda Kerr in 2010, and they welcomed a son named Flynn the following year.
The couple split up in 2013, with Orlando embarking on a romance with pop star Katy Perry three years later.
After a brief time apart in 2017, the pair resumed their relationship and got engaged in 2019.
In 2020, Katy revealed in her music video for Never Worn White that she was expecting their first child together.
She gave birth to their daughter, Daisy, in August 2020.
Orlando made headlines when he was papped paddle-boarding naked with Katy last year, and for his bizarre "morning routine" that he detailed in an interview that went viral.
He said he started his day with 20 minutes of Buddhist chanting, before a hike and breakfast which includes a smoothie that he mixes with "brain octane oil" and collagen powder, something he admitted was "very LA".
"I'm 90 percent plant-based, so I'll only eat a really good piece of red meat maybe once a month," he told The Sunday Times.
"I sometimes look at a cow and think, that's the most beautiful thing ever."
The rest of Orlando's day, he said, is spent "dreaming about roles for myself and others - for minorities and women" - something which sparked a lot of people to poke fun at him online.
Viggo Mortensen
Viggo stole hearts as the enigmatic Aragorn, a role he's still best-known for.
He has since also starred in many films including Green Book and Captain Fantastic, both of which earned him Oscar nominations, as well as A Dangerous Method, which saw him nominated for a Golden Globe.
Aside from acting, the half-Danish actor has explored fine arts, photography, poetry, and music - writing several books on the topics.
In 2002, he founded the Perceval Press to publish the works of little-known artists and authors.
Viggo met singer Exene Cervenka in 1986 on the set of the comedy Salvation! and they got married in 1987.
The following year, Exene gave birth to their son, named Henry Blake Mortensen, who later played his on-screen son in the film Crimson Tide in 1995.
In 2016, the 63-year-old travelled to New York to take care of his father, who died a year later from dementia.
Two years prior, Viggo's mother had also died from complications of the condition.
Viggo has also revealed he bought two of the horses he rode while on LOTR, having bonded with them so closely he couldn't bear to part from the animals.
In 2009, it was reported that he had at least temporarily retired from film acting - but in a 2012 interview, he claimed he'd been misquoted.
He denied that he ever said he was retiring, only that he didn't have "plans to do another movie" at the time and that he was "taking a little break now. I don't have anything lined up."
Sir Ian McKellen
Ian has become a national treasure, receiving numerous awards including seven Laurence Olivier Awards, a Tony, a Golden Globe, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
He has also received nominations for two Oscars, five Emmys, and four BAFTAs.
Ian reprised his role of Gandalf in the Hobbit films which starred Martin Freeman, as well as joining the X-Men franchise as Erik Lehnsherr and Magneto.
He played an elderly incarnation of Sherlock in Mr Holmes, starred in the new live-action Beauty and the Beast, and as Gus the Theatre Cat in the panned flop Cats musical remake.
In 2013, he became an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church in order to preside over the marriage of his friend and X-Men co-star Patrick Stewart to the singer Sunny Ozell.
From 2013 to 2016, Ian co-starred in the ITV sitcom Vicious alongside Derek Jacobi as Freddie Thornhill, one half of an elderly gay couple.
In 2015, Ian appeared as Norman to Anthony Hopkins' Sir in a BBC Two production of Ronald Harwood's The Dresser, alongside Edward Fox, Vanessa Kirby, and Emily Watson - a role which earned him a BAFTA nomination.
Ian was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2006, but in 2012, he stated on his blog: "There is no cause for alarm.
"I am examined regularly and the cancer is contained. I've not needed any treatment."
The 82-year-old has a tattoo of the Elvish number nine, written using J. R. R. Tolkien's constructed script of Tengwar, on his shoulder in reference to his involvement in the Lord of the Rings and the fact that his character was one of the original nine companions of the Fellowship of the Ring.
The other actors of The Fellowship got the same tattoo with the exception of John Rhys-Davies whose stunt double got the tattoo instead.
Dominic Monaghan
Dominic famously played Merry in Peter Jackson's films, but he went on to also have major success as Charlie Pace in Lost.
He's also starred in the X-Men films as Chris Bradley, and hosted his very own nature show, Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan.
Since August 2018, he has been playing a serial killer in Channel 9 Australia's Murder Mystery Drama show Bite Club, which is filmed in and around Sydney.
In 2010, he appeared opposite Megan Fox in the music video for Eminem's Love the Way You Lie.
The 45-year-old dated his Lost co-star Evangeline Lillu from 2004-2007, and is still good friends with Billy Boyd, who played Pippin.
In fact, the two have their own YouTube podcast called The Friendship Onion, where they play video games together.
Billy Boyd
Since playing Pippin, Scots actor Billy continued to appear in productions including Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and Seed of Chucky.
The former bookbinder has now also turned his hand to music, fronting a band called Beefcake - named after the time his Lord of the Rings co-star Dominic sent a picture of a cake covered in bees.
Billy made a guest appearance on Viggo's 2003 album Pandemoniumfromamerica, where he played the bass on two songs, as well as drums on another.
In 2014, the 53-year-old wrote and performed the song The Last Goodbye, which was played over the ending credits of the movie The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
He married his longtime partner Alison McKinnon, with whom he shares a 16-year-old son, in 2010.
In attendance were both Elijah and Dominic - who he is still very good friends with - in fact, he revealed on GMTV that Dominic is essentially a godfather to his son.
Andy Serkis
An incredible performance-capture actor, Andy stunned audiences as the creepy Gollum.
He reprised the role in the Hobbit films, also working as the trilogy's second unit director, which included directing aerial shots and battle scenes.
He played King Kong in the eponymous 2005 film and Ceasar in The Planet of the apes reboot.
The 57-year-old is the tenth highest-grossing actor of all time, having also appeared in productions in human form including playing Ian Drury, a role that won him a BAFTA.
Andy has founded his own production company called The Imaginarium Studios, and made his directorial debut with 2017 film Breathe before directing Venom: Let There Be Carnage in 2021.
He's set to star alongside Idris Elba and Cynthia Erivo in the new TV film of Luther, which is currently being filmed.
Andy married The Bill and Silent Witness actress Lorraine Ashbourne in July 2002, and they live in Crouch End with their three children: Ruby, Sonny, and Louis, all of whom are actors.
Ruby and Louis starred in the 2019 film The Kid Who Would Be King and the 2020 Netflix series The Letter for the King respectively.
Louis also voiced Bhoot in Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, which was directed by and co-starred his father as Baloo.
Liv Tyler
Liv played Arwen in the Lord of the Rings films, having turned to acting after beginning her career with modelling.
The daughter of Aerosmith singer Steve Tyler, Liv went on to star in films including Jersey Girl, Ad Astra, and The Incredible Hulk.
She's also been in TV productions such as the HBO supernatural drama series The Leftovers, the BBC period drama series Gunpowder, and the ITV/Hulu period drama series Harlots.
Like her dad, she's also a singer and have appeared as a guest vocalist on The Lemonheads' album Varshons and Evan Dando's album Baby I'm Bored.
In 2011, she released her own debut single called Need You Tonight.
The 44-year-old is also known for her modelling work, a spokesperson for Givenchy's line of perfume and cosmetics.
In January 2021, Liv revealed in an Instagram post that she had tested positive for Covid on New Year's Eve, leaving her bedridden in isolation for 10 days.
She said the virus "comes on fast, like a locomotive", and "F’s with your body and mind equally".
Also in 2021, the actress confirmed she'd split from her fiancée Dave Gardner, with whom she shares two children - Sailor Gene, six, and Lula Rose, five.
The former couple had been introduced to each other by model Kate Moss.
Liv is also mother to son Milo, 16, from her 2003-2008 marriage to ex-husband Royston Langdon.
Following her first divorce, Liv revealed she'd "had a rough couple of years" and was "rebuilding her life again".
Christopher Lee
Christopher played Saruman in the Lord of the Rings films, a role he reprised in the Hobbit films.
He was also famed for his work as Count Dooku in the Star Wars films and for playing Count Dracula in nine different films.
Christopher was knighted for services to drama and charity in 2009, received the BAFTA Fellowship in 2011, and received the BFI Fellowship in 2013.
In 2015, the former RAF intelligence officer died aged 93, having been admitted to hospital for respiratory problems and heart failure.
His wife of 54 years, Birgit Krøncke, delayed the public announcement until 11 June, informing her family of the death before releasing the news to the press.
Christopher was also survived by his 59-year-old daughter, Christina.
