Lord Mandelson's lawyers say arrest sparked by 'baseless' claim he was about to leave the country

Lord Mandelson was arrested over fears he was about to flee the country, lawyers representing the former US ambassador have said.

Police had agreed to interview him next month on a voluntary basis but arrested him on Monday following a “baseless suggestion” he was planning to move abroad, they said.
