Loose Women's Ruth Langsford backs husband Eamonn Holmes as he beats ITV to top award

Ruth Langsford has been quick to offer her sincere congratulations to husband Eammon Holmes, after his win at Tuesday's TRIC Awards, as GB News saw off competition from ITV to land one of the event's top accolades.

After he and Ruth lost their Friday presenting job on This Morning to Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary at the start of 2021, the husband and wife pair stayed on the show as holiday cover for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, before Eamonn left the broadcaster altogether before the year was out.

The veteran broadcaster made the switch from ITV to GB News, where he has been hosting the channel's Breakfast show, alongside Isobel Webster for the last 18 months. The duo found themselves on the shortlist for the Multichannel News Programme trophy at Tuesdy's TRIC Awards, alongside both ITV News and Good Morning Britain, with Channel 4 News and Talk TV also among the nominees.

But it was GB News Breakfast that took the honours, before Eammon missed out to Nigel Farage for the Best News Presenter gong, with the controversial winner booed by people at the ceremony as he went up to accept.

Eamonn took to Instagram to mark the achievement, sharing a photo of him and Isabel clutching their award and writing: "The viewers and listeners honoured us at Tric Awards with Best Breakfast Show. It's a 7 day a week operation and we r only part of it but want u to know how much we all appreciate the connection. Hopefully see u in the morning from 6 - 9.30am."

Among the many people to reply to the post was Loose Women presenter Ruth, who commented: "What a team! " along with some party emojis.

Eamonn's TRIC Award win came after he has taken very public shots at ITV over the last month, in the aftermath of Phillip Schofield's headline-hitting departure. As well as claiming that his former This Morning co-star 'deceived' him and Ruth, Eamonn told his Twitter followers that senior ITV execs 'knew' about' Phillip's affair with a young This Morning runner and their investigations were far from extensive.
