Loose Women's Janet Street-Porter blasts 'self-obsessed' Adele over 'snivelling apology'

Loose Women panelist Janet Street-Porter has lashed out at Adele over the pop singer's decision to cancel her Las Vegas shows just hours before she was due to go on stage, branding her "self-obsessed".

The sharp-tongued panelist, 75, accused the star of treating her fans "appallingly", suggesting that a "snivelling apology" didn't cut it.

Adele broke down in tears on Thursday as she announced that she had been forced to reschedule her tour.

The singer said her Las Vegas residency, which was set to be begin at Caesar's Palace on Friday, "is not ready" after a number of factors including the pandemic has hit her preparations.

British fans of the superstar were left furious over the last minute gig cancellation after spending thousands of pounds travelling to see her for the opening of her 24-night Sin City residency.

Some of the tickets to see her show were priced up to £20,000.

Giving her verdict on the situation in her Daily Mail column, Janet wrote: "She’s been on a journey from wealthy woman to incredibly rich and self-obsessed global star. That doesn’t grant you the right to treat fans so appallingly, hoping that a snivelling apology will soften the blow.

"Adele has made millions from mining the trauma of her ‘journey’ from humble beginnings to millionaire single mum – but I (and many disgruntled fans) have decided to get off the bus after the latest catastrophic episode in her Saga of Sobs.

"I don’t know which was more jaw-dropping; Snivelling Adele’s feeble attempts at an apology to the camera with perfect nails on display, addressing us ordinary folk as if we were queuing for a bag of fish and chips (her actual words ‘My show ain’t ready’) - or the bare-faced cheek of coming to that decision just two days before kick-off."

She continued to suggest that Adele's apology didn't seem "believable".

In a video shared on Thursday evening, Adele sobbed: "Listen, I'm so sorry but my show ain't ready.

"We've tried absolutely everything we can to put it together in time and for it to be good enough for you but we've been absolutely destroyed by delivery delays and Covid.

"Half my team, half my crew are hit by Covid, they still are and it's been impossible to finish the show and I can't give you what I have right now and I'm gutted.

"I'm sorry it's so last minute, we've been awake for over 30 hours now trying to figure it out and we've run out of time and I'm so upset and I'm really embarrassed.

"I'm so sorry to everyone that's travelled again, I'm really really sorry.

"We're on it we're going to reschedule all of the dates and I'm going to finish the show and get it to where it's supposed to be for you."

Sharing the emotional clip, Adele promised fans: "All dates will be rescheduled, more info coming soon."
