Loose Women's Denise Welch had abortion as she battled 'coercive' relationship hell

Denise Welch has revealed she once had an abortion after falling pregnant while trapped in a 'coercive' relationship with an ex partner.

The topic of abortions became a big talking point on Monday's episode of Loose Women when the panel, also including host Kaye Adams, Coleen Nolan and Katie Piper, discussed the ruling in America to overturn Roe v Wade, and allow states across America to ban access to abortions.

Coleen was the first of the women to share the fact that she'd had an abortion as a teenager, before Denise explained: "I also had a termination, I was older. People say to me 'well, do you regret it? Of course, in some ways, I regret that i had to make that decision, but I made it for my own future; if people think that's selfish, then so be it.

"But I found myself in an incredibly coercive, controlling, emotionally controlling relationship, not physical,. but, as we know, you can't see the bruises."

The Geordie actress added: "And I got pregnant, not purposely, but because wasn't doing a great deal to prevent it, as I was under the impression that that would be a wanted pregnancy."

Denise and Coleen sharing their experiences of abortion came after popstar Olivia Rodrigo spoke out about the Roe v Wade controversy on stage at Glastonbury. Before dedicating a duet of F*** You with Lily Allen to the Supreme Court members who decided to overturn it, she said: "I’m devastated and terrified. So many women and so many girls are going to die because of this. I wanted to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who have showed us that at the end of the day, they truly don’t give a shit about freedom.

"The song is for the justices: Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh. We hate you! We hate you.”
