The March 7 deadline came and went, and while the Arizona Cardinals did not use it, six teams across the NFL opted to use the franchise tag on a player.
Half of them were running backs.
These players now can negotiate with other teams but their original team can match any offer and it would take two first-round picks compensation for another team to sign them.
They also have until July to get a new long-term contract done or they will simply play the season under the franchise tag for one season, which pays the player the average of the five highest salaries at the position.
The Cardinals face four of the teams who used the franchise tag in 2023 – the Cowboys, Ravens, Giants and Commanders.
Below are the six players who were tagged.
