Long Eaton's oldest Indian restaurant to close down after 3 decades - but not before a last hurrah

The owners of an Indian restaurant have announced with "heavy heart" that it is to close down after three decades. Jay Singh broke the news to customers on Facebook that it was the end of the road for the Chandelier in Long Eaton.

The restaurant, in Derby Road, is the oldest in the town. Mr Singh said the business had been hard hit by Covid and had struggled to recover financially. He said: "After three successful decades it with heavy hearts that we are announcing the closure of the Chandelier restaurant.

"Chandelier has been a huge part of the Long Eaton community and we are grateful to all our loyal customers for their continued support over the past 30+ years. Covid restrictions presented new challenges for us as a business, and whilst we tried are hardest to continue operating as both a dining in establishment and takeaway service, it is no secret that, like many businesses, we have struggled to recover financially.

"With this in mind, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors and finish our Chandelier journey."

The restaurant will close on Tuesday May 10. Mr Singh added: "We invite all of our beloved customers to join us over the coming weeks to celebrate and reminisce with all of the team and give Chandelier the last hurrah it deserves."

Customers said they would be sad to see the restaurant close. One posted: "I'm so sorry to read this - a great loss for Long Eaton, and a horrible decision for you to have to make." Another said: "Very sad to hear your news and our thanks for the many lovely meals we have had there- we always felt welcomed."
