The London Welsh Rugby Club Choir wowed Britain’s Got Talent judge Alisha Dixon on BBC One’s Saturday Kitchen with a brilliant rendition of Cwm Rhondda - or Bread of Heaven.
Directed by Michael Wyn Jones the 20-strong choir donned their daffodils and club ties to celebrate St David’s Day week on the show, and belted out the popular hymn in true Welsh fashion.
Presenter Matt Tebbutt thanked the choir and said they were “amazing”. Alisha, alongside author Poppy O’Toole and drinks expert Helen McGinn, hollered and applauded. Welsh chef Bryn Williams, also a guest on the show, was so enthused by the performance he punched the air in celebration.
Before their brilliant performance Matt welcomed the choir and said he “couldn’t be more excited to say they’re back” on the show after a two-year hiatus. Matt wore his London Welsh tie which the club donated to him on the show three years ago.
One of the choristers told Matt: “We’ve got an exciting week next week. The Italian Rugby Federation has invited us to sing the Italian anthem and the Welsh anthem on the pitch before Italy vs Wales at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. It'll be fantastic.”
The conversation took a rather random twist when Matt then joked that one of the choir members was the spitting image of American actor Ben Affleck. “Is Ben Affleck here excited about it?” he said, before directing the camera towards the man. “Just have a look at this fella, the youngest member of the squad," Matt laughed.
Before the choir sang Helen ruefully told them how she wished she’d brought enough wine to share with them, while Matt told her not to worry and joked that they’d be in the pub straight after the show.
