London weather forecast: Met Office issues yellow weather warning due to strong winds

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the capital and the southeast due to a band of low pressure on Saturday.

According to the forecaster, wind speeds could reach up to 55mph on the coast while gusts could exceed 40mph in London.

Due to the high wind speeds, the Met Office said “travel disruption is likely” before the band of pressure eases in the evening.

The Met Office added: “A deep area of low pressure will affect parts of the UK on Saturday with some very strong gusts of wind likely to its south.

“A blustery and showery day will see winds gust widely to 40 mph, and locally up to 50 to 55mph during the daytime.

“The strongest gusts are likely to occur mainly, but by no means exclusively, over hills and along the south coast.”

As part of the yellow weather warning, there could be short-term power loss in some areas along with local transport delays and potential damage to temporary buildings.

Mixed with blustery and rainy conditions, the Met Office reports that London will see a high of 20°C on Saturday afternoon despite the strong winds with the possibility of light showers.

On Sunday, London is set for more settled but overcast conditions with a high of 20°C.
