London Waterloo chaos as trackside fire causes major disruption to SWR trains

A trackside fire in west London is causing major disruption to services in and out of the capital.

The blaze in Feltham closed lines on Saturday morning, bringing South Western Railway (SWR), trains in and out of Waterloo station to a standstill.

Dozens of trains in and out of Waterloo have been showing as delayed on the station’s live arrivals and departures page.

National Rail is warning of possible cancellations and delays of up to 50 minutes.

In an update at 11am, SWR said the affected lines have reopened but said disruption would likely last through to 3pm.

National Rail is warning passengers of disruption to the following services:

* London Waterloo to Reading: Diverted in both directions, not running via Feltham

* London Waterloo to Addlestone: Diverted in both directions, not running via Feltham

* London Waterloo to Windsor and Eton Riverside: Heavily delayed in both directions

* London Waterloo to Strawberry Hill and London Waterloo to Teddington: Subject to delays of up to 40 minutes.

The incident is the latest in a string of trackside fires in London which have disrupted train services during this year’s record hot summer.

They included a major blaze in Stratford on July 10, which caused days of disruption.

Two days later, a large fire ripped through gardens close to a tracks in Walthamstow, closing part of an Overground line for more than a week.

Meanwhile, disruption to London rail services continues after two train derailments in less than 24 hours.

A Greater Anglia train derailed shortly after 2pm on Friday south of Wickford railway station in Essex.

The train remained upright and none of the passengers and crew were hurt.

The previous day, a train derailment in East Sussex left three carriages of a Southern service from London Victoria end up on their side, trapping around 150 passengers.
