Farmers gather their tractors away from the main protest

Wednesday 26 November 2025 15:23 , Claudia Lee

Farmers are reportedly moving their tractors away from the main protest in Whitehall, where the Met Police enforced a restriction yesterday.

One user posted on X: “Farmers gather their tractors away from the main protest after a last minute restriction by the Met police prevented them from entering Whitehall.”

There has been speculation about when the restriction came into place, with some suggesting it was a “politically driven” ban which came at the “last minute”.

The Met police released a statement yesterday which set out a series of conditions.

The force said: “While people will still be able to demonstrate, conditions have been put in place to prevent protesters from bringing vehicles, including tractors or other agricultural vehicles to the protest.

“This decision was taken due to the serious disruption they may cause to the local area, including businesses, emergency services and Londoners going about their day.”

The Metropolitan Police put restrictions around the farmers protest yesterday evening, causing some to pull out of the planned demonstration.

However, large numbers of protesters have turned out regardless and a number of arrests have been made.

The Met said it had a number of conversations with the protest organisers and conditions were put in place to prevent people bringing vehicles including tractors and agricultural vehicles.

In a statement, the force said the decision had been taken because of “serious disruption” the vehicles could cause.

The Met warned: "Anyone breaching conditions by bringing vehicles, including tractors or agricultural vehicles, to today's farmers protest will be asked by officers to leave.

"If they refuse to comply with the conditions, officers will have to make arrests for offences under the Public Order Act."
