London bucks the trend but university applications are down across the country as a whole

The number of young Londoners applying to university has gone up, according to new figures which show applications are down nationally.

The application rate among teenagers in the capital has risen by one point to 59% but concerns are growing over the number of teenagers rejecting university after nation-wide applications fell for the second year in a row.
