AHMEDABAD: A customer was aghast when a lizard floated up in his cup of cold drink served at a restaurant in Sola on Saturday. Bhargav Joshi, the customer, tweeted the photographs of the reptile, tagging the city civic body and the fast food chain at whose outlet he had bought the cold drink. Soon, the AMC’s health department issued a notice to the restaurant and sealed it.
“My friend and I had gone for lunch to McDonald’s near Science City,” said Joshi, a 27-year-old resident of South Bopal. “After taking two sips, I stirred the cold drink and a dead lizard floated up.” Joshi added: “I tried to complain to the manager who only offered a refund. When I said the matter was about hygiene, they called police who supported me.”
An AMC official said, “We sealed the eatery and issued a notice to Hardcastle Restaurant Pvt Ltd that runs this franchise outlet.”
“We are looking into this incident that is alleged to have taken place at the Ahmedabad outlet. While we have checked repeatedly and found nothing wrong, we are cooperating with the authorities,” an official statement from McDonald’s said. The statement said the company has implemented 42 strict safety and hygiene protocols across all its restaurants.
