Liz Truss insists Government is ‘absolutely’ not planning public spending cuts

Prime Minister Liz Truss has insisted that she will stick by her leadership campaign pledge not to cut public spending as the country’s economic turmoil continues.

Truss was challenged by Sir Keir Starmer at Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday. The Labour leader reminded the Prime Minister of her promise during her bid to get into Number 10, quoting her as having pledged: “I’m not planning public spending reductions”.

When Starmer asked if Truss would stick to the pledge, the PM replied: “Absolutely… We are spending almost £1 trillion of public spending. We were spending £700 billion back in 2010.”
