Livingston Women’s striker Jen Dodds says the Lionesses will head in to this weekend’s crucial SWF Championship clash away to Rossvale full of confidence - now that they’ve blown away the cobwebs.
Dodds, who came off the bench to bag a brace in their 4-1 win over Ayr United last week, admitted the side looked ‘rusty’ on their return from the winter break.
But now they’ve gotten a game under their belts, they can travel west knowing they’re in good shape to pick up a result.
Livi head into the game with an eight point lead at the top of the table - and sit nine ahead of Sunday’s opponents although Rossvale do have a game in hand.
Speaking to the Courier, she said: “In the first-half against Ayr we were really rusty to be honest. They’re a good side and it’s always a difficult game but we weren’t great.
“The second-half was much better. We played some really good stuff and showed the levels we had been playing before the break. Brogan (Anderson) dropped more into a no.10 role and that worked well for us.”
She added: “I was obviously disappointed I didn’t start but I was really pleased with my contribution when I came off the bench.
“Beth McKay came on at the same time and I think the subs made a difference. That’s what you’re hoping to do when you come on. We created plenty and took our chances in the second-half which was really pleasing.
“Come the end of the season it could prove to have been massive to turn things around after half-time in that game and pick up the three points.”
Sunday will be the first time the two sides meet since the Lionesses grabbed an injury-time winner at the Tony Macaroni Arena earlier in the season with Dodds admitting that result - and performance - was a huge moment for the club.
She said: “We know how good Rossvale are and I feel that we always compete well against them and they’re good games.
“The win against them last time I think was really important. It definitely gave us the confidence and belief that we could beat them and the way we played in the second-half was probably the best we’ve played all season.
“We know we need to be at that level again but we’re confident that’s what we can do.”
