Livingston Women's match winner still taking it one game at a time despite 13 point lead

Livingston Women’s match winner Jess Murphy insists there’s no thoughts of promotion just yet despite their 2-1 win over Dryburgh Athletic seeing them move 16 points clear of third-placed Rossvale.

The Lionesses found a way to win a scrappy affair which also saw them open up a 13 point gap over Renfrew in the race for the title.

Alma Codegoni’s wonderful chipped effort on 32 minutes had Dryburgh in front in a contest of few chances but a triple change from the hosts on the hour mark brought instant success.

Raewyn Murphy - on the field just three minutes - levelled things up as she nodded home at the back post after namesake Jess had got on the end of a corner-kick.

Livi had keeper Charlotte Ferguson to thank for a stunning point-blank save in the final minutes before Gemma Mason - part of the triple change - floated a perfect corner-kick three minutes from time for Jess Murphy to power a header home for the winner.

She commented: “It was a game that was really tight and could have gone either way. Charlotte’s made a cracker of a save which kept us in it. When something like that happens, you can take momentum from it and then Gemma put it on a plate for me from the corner-kick.

“I actually should have had two because Rae stole my goal but I’ll allow it as she’s a Murphy too. It’s good that there’s goals all over the park and we showed that again.”

She added: “It felt like a really big win, especially after last week. We’re not thinking too far ahead or getting carried away because we know in this league every team can take points off each other.”

The Lionesses can take a huge step towards promotion to the second tier on Sunday when they travel to Renfrew but Murphy knows they’ll be out to prove a point after Livi beat them 10-1 earlier this month.

She said: “They’re a very good team with plenty of quality. We obviously just caught them on an off day. We can go into the game full of confidence especially after getting that win.”
