Playful, poetic or even puzzle dials draw all eyes to the new collection of Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36.
Besides mechanical excellence, Rolex builds on its creativity to aesthetically dress the dials in refreshing colours and a vibrant motif that can perk up your mood.
The Swiss brand firstly celebrates the beauty of the Mediterranean through three of the six new models.
The scintillating dials are made of decorative stones that evoke the atmosphere of its scenic coast. The natural beauty and different effects of the stone further make each watch face unique.
With a finely crystallised surface, green aventurine shimmers on the first variant presented in an 18-carat Everose gold Oyster case, guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100m.
The case of the second watch is crafted from 18-carat yellow gold and its dial is cut from carnelian, an orangey-coloured stone typified by lines of varying shapes and sizes forming an artful cameo of patterns.
The third version in 18-carat white gold boasts a turquoise dial textured with natural veining.
Diamonds further adorn hour markers and Roman numerals on the radiant dial as well as the bezel of the poetic timepieces matched with the President bracelet.
Equipped with an elegant concealed folding Crownclasp, the bracelet features patented ceramic inserts, designed by Rolex, inside the links to enhance its flexibility on the wrist and its longevity.
The three-piece link President bracelet was created for the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date launched in 1956.
A technical feat at the time, it was the first calendar wristwatch to indicate, in addition to the date, the day of the week spelt out in full in an arc-shaped aperture at 12 o’clock on the dial.
Rolex now brings an unexpected twist to the iconic model by changing what pops up on the windows in three reinterpretations, in 18-carat yellow, white or Everose gold, worn with the President bracelet.
Rather than the day of the week, the arc-shaped aperture now displays an inspirational keyword — Happy, Eternity, Gratitude, Peace, Faith, Love or Hope.
The window at 3 o’clock reveals daily one of 31 exclusive emojis instead of the date. The Cyclops lens further magnifies each emoji, such as a heart, a four-leaf clover and a peace sign for visual impact.
Entirely created using champlevé enamelling, the dial is striking for the depth and intensity of its gleaming colours and decoration.
Orange is the main colour of the dial for the Everose gold watch while turquoise blue was chosen for the yellow and white gold versions.
Rolex goes into great detail in designing the motif inspired by a jigsaw puzzle. The turquoise blue, red, fuchsia, orange, green and yellow pieces fit together — each representing one of the key moments in life.
Harmonising with the dial’s main colour, 10 baguette-cut sapphires in six different hues mark the hours.
The six new models are powered by calibre 3255 equipped with a self-winding system via a Perpetual rotor. Thanks to its barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the power reserve extends to approximately 70 hours.
Like all Rolex watches, the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36 carries a five- year international guarantee as well as the Superlative Chronometer certification, which ensures excellent performance on the wrist.
