Liverpool youngster scores in first game when making debut hours after exit

Liverpool youngster Leighton Clarkson enjoyed the perfect start to his spell away from the Reds.

The 20-year-old completed a season-long loan move to Scottish Premiership outfit Aberdeen on Saturday. A few hours later he was a key player in a victory for his new team.

Clarkson was named among the substitutes by Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin for their league match against St Mirren. However, an injury to Hayden Coulsen in the 12th minute meant Clarkson was set for an early introduction.

After just being on the pitch a little over half an hour, Clarkson was on the score sheet. Picking the ball up just outside the penalty area, the young midfielder fired his effort into the top corner and easily beat the goalkeeper.

Aberdeen went on to win the game 4-1, thanks to a brace from Bojan Miovski and a striker from Luis Lopes.

Clarkson has been at the Liverpool Academy since the age of six and signed a new long-term deal two years ago. He made his first-team breakthrough for the Reds in the 2019/20 season with appearances in the League Cup and FA Cup before being given a Champions League start at FC Midtjylland the following campaign.

He is the 12th Liverpool player out on loan following Tyler Morton's temporary move to Blackburn earlier this week.
