Ranel Young has signed his first professional contract with Liverpool after an impressive season for the Under-18s.
The 17-year-old joined the Reds from Huddersfield Town as an Under-12s player, and was promoted to the Under-18s last summer as he continues to progress through the club’s Academy.
The winger, who is comfortable on either flank, recorded four goals and an assist from 17 Premier League U18 appearances during an eye-catching breakthrough season. Meanwhile, he also featured twice in the FA Youth Cup, and made five appearances for Liverpool Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League as they suffered a quarter-final defeat to Sporting Lisbon.

Young’s goals saw him claim an impressive winner against Blackburn Rovers, a spectacular last-minute individual effort against Manchester United, and a brace in last month’s victory over Newcastle United.
Blessed with real pace, Young will now continue his progress at the Academy as one of a number of highly-talented forwards in Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s U18s ranks, alongside the likes of Trent Kone-Doherty, Louie Koumas, and Keyrol Figueroa.
