Liverpool to 'miss out' on transfer windfall on winger sold in 2019

Former Liverpool winger Rafael Camacho is set to complete a loan move to Greek side Aris FC with an option to buy, but the Reds are unlikely to profit from the deal.

According to Portuguese outlet Record, the 22-year-old is closing in on a season long loan move to Super League side Aris with the potential buy option set at €3m, less than the £5m Sporting CP paid Liverpool to sign the youngster in 2019.

During his three years in Portugal, Camacho has made just 26 first team appearances and had two loan spells. He first spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at Rio Ave and he spent the entirety of the last campaign in the second division with Belenenses SAD.

After making just two first-team appearances for Liverpool during his three years at the academy, the Portuguese youth international viewed his chances of breaking into Jurgen Klopp's side as remote and opted to continue his development elsewhere.

The club pocketed a healthy £5m for the transfer in 2019 and inserted a 20 per cent sell-on clause into the deal. However, he would need to be sold for upwards of £7m for it to be activated and the €3m being discussed in the Portuguese media today is some way off that figure.

The article adds Camacho did attract interest from England, having already represented both Liverpool and Manchester City at youth level. However, the game time and opportunity to work under coach German Burgos ensured his desire to move to Greece.

Speaking last September, Camacho revealed he is still in touch with senior players at Liverpool. He told A Bola : “(Liverpool) was very good for me in terms of growth and I still keep in touch with some players.

“Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Fabinho are some players with whom I got along well and from time to time they send a message to find out how I am and to give some advice.”
