Liverpool star Mo Salah in contention to face Leicester after AFCON final defeat

Liverpool star Mo Salah is back in contention to face Leicester on Thursday, just four days on from Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations final defeat.

Egyptian captain Salah was left disappointed as his side were beaten on penalties by Senegal in Sunday’s final in Cameroon.

The forward did not get chance to take a spot-kick, saved for the potentially decisive fifth kick, only for Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane to settle the shootout in Senegal’s favour before it got that far.

Mane returned to Senegal with his teammates to parade their first ever AFCON trophy on Monday and will not be involved against the Foxes but Salah is already back on Merseyside.

“I spoke to him and pretty much the first thing Mo told me was: ‘I’m ready’,” Klopp told the Liverpool website.

“He is an experienced player, he is a physical monster, to be honest, so we have to see.

“He will obviously have a little recovery session today and we will see how he feels tomorrow and from there we go.

“The proper plan we don’t have, play him as often and as long as possible is probably the plan, but we will not rush it.

“But if he is fine we will not leave him out for the wrong reasons as well, so let’s see.”
