A well-known cat who had many people across the region "worried" after making his way onto the roof of a railway station is now safe, it has been confirmed.
Liverpool South Parkway's unofficial 'station cat' Paul had previously been spotted on top of the roof of Platform 4 at the Merseyrail station. Shortly before 9am on Tuesday, the Facebook page for 'Paul The Liverpool South Parkway Station Cat' said Paul was stuck on the roof and needed help.
The status read: "This is not a joke. Paul the cat is stuck on the roof of platform 4. He needs help ASAP. He has been up there since yesterday. Please is there anyone reading this who can help him."

On Wednesday morning, April 6, the Facebook Page for Paul confirmed he was down from the roof and safe. The post read: "Paul is safe! He is down and happily drinking water."
Concerns had been raised by locals that Paul is "too old now to be wandering around" as some users said "a lot of people were worried". Others added they were "glad and happy" to hear Paul was safe.
Yesterday, commenters were quick to share their concerns for the feline celebrity as Merseyrail staff were said to be devising a rescue plan. When the ECHO contacted Merseyrail, they said that it was not a matter of concern as the cat often climbs up the roof. He is said to have been up there around three or four times and his owner is not concerned by his latest journey.
However, in response to concerns about Paul's wellbeing, Merseyrail stated on Twitter: "Station staff and management are aware and are attempting to coax him down/come up with a rescue plan. Thank you".
Paul, a Bengal, who actually lives nearby, spends much of his time on the concourse of the station, which connects Liverpool John Lennon Airport and the Merseyrail network. Back in 2013 he hit the headlines after reportedly biting a security guard, but he is a much-loved figure among staff at the station.
