Liverpool's player of the season award details as four-man shortlist drawn up

Liverpool have enjoyed a difficult season on the pitch as Jurgen Klopp's side look set to finish in fifth place in the Premier League and without a major trophy.

The Reds chased an unprecedented quadruple in 2021-22 - winning a domestic cup double, and narrowly falling short in the Premier League and Champions League final - and many supporters expected them to kick on this season.

Instead Klopp's side will end this campaign without any silverware and, barring a spectacular collapse from Manchester United, will have to settle for Europa League football for 2023-24.

Despite the collective disappointment at Anfield there have still be some memorable moments this season - not least the 7-0 thrashing of United - as well as some fine individual displays by several of the club's players.

Liverpool's player of the season award, therefore, is a tricky choice so the ECHO's writers have put their heads together and narrowed down the contenders to a shortlist of four players.

Now we want YOUR vote on who deserves to win the accolade for 2022-23. You can vote for your Liverpool player of the season using our widget below and read a bit more about the leading candidates.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

The versatile defender would be the first to admit his season hasn’t consistently hit the heights. But the highs have been impressive – and more regular recently after a change of position – and some of the scrutiny was unfair. During the rough run in the New Year, Alexander-Arnold’s attitude and fight rarely wavered, and that helped him through to finish the season strongly. What’s more, a new era to his Liverpool career may now be beginning.

Alisson Becker

In a season of underperformance at Anfield, Liverpool’s goalkeeper has been of the few shining lights for Liverpool. Alisson spent most of the pre-World Cup campaign bailing out his team-mates week after week as Jurgen Klopp's side got to grips with the struggles of the current campaign. Since Qatar 2022 he has since kept clean sheets in vital victories over Manchester United, Everton and high-flying Newcastle United to ensure their top-four fight went the distance.

Harvey Elliott

It will be a summer of midfield upheaval at Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp renovates his engine room but Elliott has shown he has a long-term future as a serious option in the centre of the park. He was superb in a big away win at Tottenham in December and was too fleet-footed for Manchester United's midfield in that famous 7-0 win at Anfield. This season probably represents 20-year-old Elliott's best as a senior professional.

Mohamed Salah

In the year of the coronation Liverpool’s Egyptian king still reigns at Anfield. Salah’s goalscoring might have slipped under the radar outside Merseyside, but he remains their star man. This season he became the club’s top scorer in the Premier League era, moved to fifth on the all-time list, and was the first Reds player to net in nine successive home games as he notched a century of goals at Anfield. Salah’s consistency is frightening.
