Liverpool news: Naby Keita injury boost as Jurgen Klopp’s Adam Lallana comments ring true

Liverpool are still licking their wounds from Wednesday’s 4-1 hammering at Napoli in their Champions League Group A opener and, after their clash with Wolves on Saturday was postponed, there is little optimism around Anfield ahead of their return to action next week.

Injuries have also played their part in a tough start to the new campaign, although Guinea’s manager has shed some light on Naby Keita’s current injury status as he aims to have him back for the international break. Elsewhere, Jurgen Klopp’s previous comments about Adam Lallana are ringing true as he takes interim charge as Brighton manager.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer stories coming out of Anfield.

Guinea boss sheds light on Keita situation

Keita could be in line to return for Liverpool after the international break with Guinea's manager hopeful the midfielder will be fit for their upcoming fixtures this month.

The 27-year-old has not featured for his club side since the Community Shield victory over Manchester City at the end of July and is now nursing an injury. Keita was not even included in Liverpool's Champions League squad for the group stage, sparking concerns he could be ruled out of action for the long term.

However, Guinea boss Kaba Diawara has suggested the player could be back in action before the end of this month and has even named him in his squad for the friendlies against Algeria (September 23) and Ivory Coast (September 27). "Naby Kéita is injured and he is recovering from his injury. His situation is improving and he is even ahead of schedule," Diawara said (via Feguifoot ).

“Natural leader” Lallana touted as next Brighton boss

Lallana is a standout candidate to take the Brighton job full-time after taking interim charge of the club.

Sky Sports are reporting that Brighton midfielder Lallana is strongly in the frame, having developed a reputation as a “student of the game”. He can count Jurgen Klopp as one of those who would be in his corner should the Seagulls come calling for a recommendation, with the German previously identifying him as one of the key leaders within Liverpool’s dressing room.

“Adam is a natural leader and is so, so important within our team and also in the dressing room,” he said back in 2017. “Maybe on the outside his leadership is not seen as much as we see it each and every day at Melwood in everything he does.”

Liverpool missing Sadio Mane’s best traits

The decision to allow Sadio Mane to join Bayern Munich already appears to have been the wrong one as his former attacking colleagues do not look anywhere near top form, as they continue to fail to sync together as an attacking unit and have seen their pressing statistics fall dramatically.

Yet Klopp was also warned of those particular consequences should he allow Mane to leave Liverpool. Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville was a huge fan of the Senegalese’s ability to press and, speaking after a 2020 win against Chelsea, said: "Well we'll start with Sadio Mane. He is an exceptional talent but his work rate is equally exceptional.

"He presses, he harasses, he does everything you would want a football player to do on the ball and off the ball. He gives the ball away. And look at that reaction to giving the ball away; the anger, the anticipation. Forget Kepa, we know he takes a chance. Mane knows he takes a chance. It's brilliant from the Liverpool forward."
