Liverpool news: Mo Salah sale touted as Trent Alexander-Arnold makes "unacceptable" point

Liverpool face what could be a huge few days for the remainder of their season this week.

The Reds take on Spanish side Real Madrid in the second-leg of their Champions League tie at the Bernabeu on Wednesday. Despite being three goals down, the tie represents the Merseysiders’ only chance of silverware come the end of the campaign.

They don’t travel to Spain in the best form though after they slipped to a 1-0 defeat to relegation candidates Bournemouth on the South Coast last time out. With that being said, here are the latest headlines coming out of Anfield over the last 24 hours.

Aldridge backs Salah exit

Ex-Liverpool star John Aldridge has suggested that Jurgen Klopp could potentially be forced to cash-in on Mo Salah should he want a major Reds rebuild in the summer having been critical of his showing against Bournemouth.

“There may be a debate over whether selling Salah this summer and using that money to reinvest in the team may be an option, but that idea can wait until the end of the season.” he told Sunday World. “Between now and then, Salah has to lead Liverpool as the senior striker – and he simply didn’t do that at Bournemouth."

Salah only signed a new long-term contract with the Reds last summer and is their top goalscorer this season with 22 strikes to his name in all competitions.

Alexander-Arnold tears into teammates

Whilst there was criticism externally for Liverpool’s performance against the Cherries, there were also strong words from inside the dressing room with Trent Alexander-Arnold taking aim at the attitude among the squad.

Speaking after the full-time whistle, he said: “I think looking back on it now, they [Bournemouth] probably wanted it more than us and that is something that is unacceptable and we need to make sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen again.”

Militao picks out Reds threats

Despite slumping to defeat against Bournemouth, Real Madrid defender Eder Militao has suggested that Salah and Roberto Firmino could inspire Liverpool to a famous comeback against his side.

"The night in Liverpool was one of the most historic in my sporting life - to win 5-2 there and score is a unique moment for any footballer," the defender said. "But Liverpool have a super squad and now we do not want to be surprised at home. Mo Salah has come into a good moment in attack.

"He is always dangerous and against us he is hyper-motivated, and also Roberto Firmino is scoring goals again. So until the end of this match, nothing has been decided."
