Liverpool make Arne Slot sack decision amid Mohamed Salah stand-off

Arne Slot retains the backing of the Liverpool board despite slipping results and his recent handling of Mohamed Salah, according to reports.

The Dutchman has come in for considerable criticism in recent weeks, particularly after the bombshell claims levelled against him by Salah after he was left on the bench for Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Leeds - the third consecutive match he had failed to start.

The Liverpool legend claimed his relationship with Slot had crumbled and that he did not understand why he was benched, saying he felt he had been ‘thrown under the bus’.

"I'm very disappointed, I've done so much for this club,” said Salah. “This is not acceptable for me.”

He suggested that he could leave the club in January, but, despite alienating one of Liverpool’s greatest players, Slot’s job is not yet thought to be under threat.

The Dutchman had been tipped for the sack when a miserable run between September and October saw the Reds win just once in a seven-match span, but was given time to right the ship.

Results have improved marginally since, but the stance of Liverpool’s executives has not changed in spite of Slot’s role in the Salah fallout.

Rather, it is Salah who finds himself in the hot seat. According to a report from TalkSport, Liverpool are yet to decide whether the Egyptian will play for the club again before he departs for AFCON on December 15.

In the meantime, Liverpool face a Champions League trip to face Inter Milan in the Champions League before hosting Brighton in the Premier League.

Salah has suitors aplenty keeping a close eye on how his stand-off with the club proceeds.

Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal are known to be keen on securing his services, while Al Ittihad have made offers for him in the past. San Diego FC of the MLS - owned by Egyptian businessman Mohamed Mansour - are also thought to be interested, and Chicago Fire have been linked.
